Our commitment to sustainable development is visible through the initiatives we actively support and the organisations we collaborate with. As an independent foundation, DNV actively takes the opportunity to provide a neutral arena to discuss complex issues and share experiences related to international business with other companies and stakeholders.
Red Cross
A partnership with the Red Cross was established in 2004. The aim of the partnership is to increase the capacity of the Red Cross to carry out humanitarian work. The aim is also to create pride and enthusiasm among employees worldwide and is expected to increase motivation and involvement. It is also expected to promote understanding of humanitarian situations in the geographical areas where DNV operates. In addition to gaining financial support to defined projects, the Red Cross will benefit from DNV’s expertise in core areas such as disaster preparedness, risk management and contingency planning.
UN Global Compact
Though laws and standards vary in different countries and cultures, DNV’s core values must show a uniformly high standard wherever business is conducted. To show a commitment to internationally recognised declarations on human rights, labour standards and environmental protection, DNV signed the UN Global Compact in 2003. DNV is actively involved in the UN Global Compact Nordic Network where best practice on how to advance the principles are shared between the participants.
In addition, DNVs President and CEO joined the Global Business Leadership Platform on Climate Change by becoming a signatory of the statement "Caring for Climate: The Business Leadership Platform".
World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD)
This is a CEO-led, global association of some 200 companies dealing exclusively with business and sustainable development. DNV contributes to global dialogues on sustainable development through our membership, and is an active participant in projects such as the Copenhagen roadmap, the greenhouse gas protocol and the corporate standard for reporting greenhouse gas emissions. The President and CEO of DNV is a member of the WBCSD Climate and Energy Board, and is a co-chair for the work on market mechanisms and finance.
Transparency International (TI)
DNV became a member of Transparency International in 2006. This is a global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption. Through more than 90 chapters worldwide and an international secretariat in Germany, TI raises awareness of and works with partners in government, business and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle the damaging effects of corruption. DNV’s anti-corruption instructions are based on the guidelines of TI.
Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)
The GRI has pioneered the development of the world’s most widely used sustainability reporting framework and DNV is committed to its continuous improvement and application worldwide. This framework sets out the principles and indicators that organizations can use to measure and report their economic, environmental, and social performance. Such triple-bottom-line reporting promotes transparency, and DNV is broadening its reporting systems in line with the GRI. DNV is also an organisational stakeholder of the GRI and contributes to various working groups, including co-chairing the UNEP FI/GRI Working Group for Environmental Indicators.
EFQM (European Foundation for Quality Management)
The partnership between DNV and EFQM is aimed at promoting responsible corporate citizenship through effective use of leading edge management practices. The partnership is based on a recognition that the two organisations share similar goals and that their resources and competencies are complementary.
